Twitter Experiences Global Outage

Millions were forced to be productive at the office earlier today (7/20), when micro-blogging site Twitter experienced a widespread outage. Numerous users reported (through Facebook and other sites) not being able to read or send Tweets for roughly two hours around mid-day.

Upon logging in, users were greeted with the dreaded “Twitter is currently down” message and some programming code. Multiple reports confirmed Twitter engineers were indeed working on the issue but had offered little in the way of details.

The service interruption comes on the eve of the London Olympic Games, when traffic and usage of Twitter is expected to spike dramatically.

Twitter also experienced an extended outage in June, with users being shut out for approximately two hours.
