MusicRowRecess: Billy Joel, Vanderbilt University Student Duet

Billy Joel was in the middle of a Q&A at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University recently when student Michael Pollack boldly asked if he could play the 1976 song “New York State of Mind” with him. “I would accompany you, that is,” said Pollack. The “Piano Man” obliged.

It turned into a moment Pollack won’t soon forget. “Nice going, Michael. The guy’s got chops,” said Joel afterward.
