In December 1969, Merle Haggard‘s live album Okie From Muskogee was released after the single “Okie From Muskogee” had reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart. The album, recorded live in Muskogee, Okla., won the Academy of Country Music award for Album of the Year in 1969, and Haggard received Top Male Vocalist, and Single of the Year for the title track.
