Google Fiber has committed to satellite communities in the greater Nashville area. Initial communities include Oak Hill, Forest Hills, Belle Meade, and Berry Hill.
Google Fiber is up to 10x faster than what most American households employ.
Other cities slated to receive the service include Atlanta, Charlotte, and Raleigh-Durham. Five other metro areas are remain in the running.
Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas City, Kan., became the test bed for Google Fiber back in 2013. Google Fiber provides Gigabit internet in Kansas City (up to 1 gigabit upload and download speeds) for $70/month. Basic internet (up to 5 Mbps download &1 Mbps upload speeds) is free, with an installation fee of $300.
News that Google Fiber would be coming to Nashville was made official in January 2015.
