The Recording Academy is releasing a new book titled A Grammy Salute To Music Legends, All-Star Artists Pay Tribute to Their Musical Heroes. It is a collection of essays about the Academy’s Special Merit Awards honorees, which were originally printed in the Grammy program book over the last 20 years.
The 88 honorees featured in A Grammy Salute To Music Legends have made extraordinary contributions either as performers or behind the scenes as producers, engineers, songwriters, executives or technical innovators. They received the Special Merit Awards, which include the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical Grammy Award.
Some highlights include Quincy Jones honoring Michael Jackson, Miranda Lambert writing about Dolly Parton, Queen’s Brian May paying tribute to Doris Day, Carol Burnett writing on Julie Andrews, and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) writing about his friendship with the Grateful Dead. Additional honorees highlighted in the collection are The Beatles, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Carole King, Run DMC, Barbra Streisand, and many more.
David Konjoyan, Vice President of Creative Services at The Recording Academy, is Editor of the book. Jimmy Jam wrote the forward.
A Grammy Salute To Music Legends (Hal Leonard Books) will be released in January 2017 and retail for $29.99.
