Apple is reportedly planning a song-discovery feature for its iOS mobile software that will allow users to identify a song and its artist using iPhone or iPad, according to Bloomberg. Apple is reportedly working with Shazam Entertainment, whose technology can identify a song that is playing by obtaining sound from a phone’s microphone and matching that sound against a music database.
The song-identification would be integrated in a way that consumers will not need to separately download it. Among the ways the technology can be used will be through Apple’s voice-activated search feature, Siri, it has been reported.
The company is slated to preview the latest mobile software update, iOS 8, during its annual developer conference June 2 in San Francisco.
The company continues to add new features focusing on music. Last year, Apple introduced iTunes Radio, and had 63 percent of the paid digital download market, according to researcher NPD Group.
