Taylor Swift has donated $113,000 to the Tennessee Equality Project, which is working to stop state lawmakers from passing legislation that would allow private adoption agencies to raise religious and moral objections over prospective parents, and another bill that prevents state and local agencies from taking action against a business based on its internal policies.
Chris Sanders, who leads the project, revealed the donation on Facebook, along with a photo of a letter Swift wrote in support of the organization’s work in bringing together a group of Tennessee faith leaders in a petition against the legislation.
“I’m so inspired by the work that you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee faith leaders standing up against the ‘slate of hate’ in our state legislature…I’m so grateful that they’re giving all people a place to worship,” Swift stated in the letter.
“She sees our struggle in Tennessee and continues to add her voice with so many good people, including religious leaders, who are speaking out for love in the face of fear,” Sanders said on Facebook.
During last year’s midterm elections, Swift endorsed Democrat Phil Bredesen’s run for Senate. Bredesen ultimately lost to Marsha Blackburn.
