Idle Hour’s Last Stand

Dennis Robbins and John Scott Sherrill

Hit songwriters John Scott Sherrill and pal Dennis Robbins gave Bobby’s Idle Hour a proper Music Row sendoff when they played one hit after another and said a final goodbye Saturday, Jan. 5 to the Music Row honky tonk. As previously reported, the venue will close Jan. 12.

The room was packed as the duo sang hits like “Would You Go With Me,” “Get Me To The Church on Cumberland Road,” “Two of a Kind (Working on a Full House),” “Some Fools Never Learn,” and more. Sherrill has played at the famed venue every month since October as he and several of his songwriter friends grieved the news that developers plan to tear down the neighborhood bar on 16th Avenue South to make room for a planned upscale office building. The ongoing development on Music Row has been a source of contention for the past five years, during which time just under 50 Music Row studios and music industry businesses have been leveled to make way for apartments and office buildings.
