Sales season is upon us, with major albums being released almost every week between now and the end of the year. This week has two superstar releases: Tim McGraw’s Sundown Heaven Town debuted at No. 1 on the Country album chart with sales of 71K, and George Strait’s The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium rode in to the No. 2 spot with 51K. McGraw’s previous outing, Two Lanes of Freedom, debuted with 107K in February 2013.
Lee Brice and Dustin Lynch experienced second-week slides. Brice’s I Don’t Dance slipped 62 percent, moving 15K this week, for a RTD total of 53K. Lynch’s Where It’s At fell 71 percent, selling 9K this week for a RTD of 40K.
On the overall chart Barbra Streisand reigned at No. 1, debuting with 196K units of Partners, including duets with Blake Shelton, Michael Buble, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, John Legend, Billy Joel and even Elvis.
CCM act For King & Country debuted with 22K, staking claim at No. 13 on the all-genre chart.
Kenny Chesney’s new album was released yesterday (Sept. 23), and next week brings new projects from Lady Antebellum and Shelton.
Tracking Tracks
Jason Aldean is on fire, holding four of the Top 10 tracks positions with “Burnin’ It Down” (78K) and “Gonna Know We Were Here” (70K) at No. 1 and 2, followed by “Sweet Little Somethin’” (32K) and “Two Night Town” (28K) at No. 8 and 9.
Scoring the No. 3 and 4 spots are Florida Georgia Line with “Dirt” (54K) and new release “Sun Daze” (50K).
